To Patent or Not to Patent?

Not all ideas require a patent to produce and take them to the market. Ideas that I term 90 day wonders do not require a patent. This means the product has a short life an will probably be here today and gone tomorrow. An example would be many of the products seen on TV with their wait a minute, I’m not done yet pitch. These products are not worth the time and expense to obtain a patent. Long before the patent is issued, the product will be obsolete or no longer in vogue. You still want to be sure they meet the criteria for patent so that you do not infringe an existing patent.

On the other hand, products that have longevity in the market should be patented.

Working together, you and I want to come up with new products for you using the most cost effective approach for you. There is no need in trying to reinvent the wheel when it is not necessary. I will approach providing ideas/inventions to you using the following methods in the order below:

  1. Locate Existing Patents
  2.

I will perform patent searches and locate patents that meet your criteria and present them to you. This method will be more cost effective as you will not have to pay for patent searches and filing and maintenance fees for a new utility patent. For more information on this method click: Existing Patents.

  3. New Ideas and Inventions
  4.

If I cannot locate existing patent(s) that meet your criteria, I will come up with completely new ideas for new products for you. This will entail more expense on your part due to the additional activities and their associated fees. For more information on this method click: New Ideas/Inventions.
